Travel Beauty Routines on a Budget

Words by

You hold the power to make your life as beautiful as you want it to be. By filling your life with enriching experiences, incredible people and wonderful memories, you can truly live the life of your dreams.

There's one main understanding about beauty and traveling. Both require an investment. If you're not intentional about investing in the right travel experiences, beauty rituals or products, you'll see and feel the difference. Thankfully, as it relates to beauty, you can implement tactics to maintain a great beauty routine on a budget. In order to get started, consider the following tips.

Puffy Eyes

Unfortunately, many people wait until the day before traveling to pack their bags and prepare. This leads to the loss of sleep the night before a trip. Whether you're traveling by bus, plane or train, the process of traveling is exhausting. In order to avoid the tired look, try to get lots of rest and prepare in advance. Additionally, consider ways to minimize puffiness and swelling. If you're on a plane, consider asking the flight attendant for a cup of ice. Stick two spoons in the cup of ice. Once the spoons fully cool, apply them to your eyes for a cooling effect.

Another great option involves packing a small insulated lunch box with ice. In addition to storing food for traveling, you can also add an ice pack, a sheet mask and eye patches. The ice pack will keep the products cool. Plus, once you're finished using them, you can easily dispose of them when you're done.

Sun Protection

As the sun's ozone layer continues to disintegrate, the more exposed your skin becomes to the sun's harmful UV rays. In addition to applying lots of an SPF 30+ moisturizer, consider watching the amount of sun you're taking in. If you're seated near a window on a flight, it's okay to close the window as you fly. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. The right pair of sunglasses can look really chic when you're traveling. A great SPF mist can work well when you're ready to reapply throughout the day.

Water Consumption & Moisture

A lot of people don't like to drink a lot of water when they're traveling because they don't want to use public restrooms. However, water consumption is essential when you're traveling because dehydration shows up in the form of dry skin, tired eyes and lethargy. Instead, consistently sip throughout the day. Add a pinch of sea salt to help your body absorb as much as possible. Avoid alcohol and caffeine as both can dehydrate.

In addition to consuming water internally, it's also excellent to consume it topically. Use a small water mist bottle to mist your face. After you've sprayed the water mist on your face, gently use your fingers or a gua sha tool to massage your face. Incorporating the massaging tactics will help to keep blood circulating efficiently. A small facial massage also helps with the lymphatic system.

Purchase Travel-Sized Product Containers

If you plan to check bags, do not pack all of your skincare and beauty products in your checked luggage. Instead, pack travel-sized versions in your carry-on bag. If you plan to pack a lunch bag with an ice pack, you can also store your travel-sized beauty products in there for easy access. There's nothing quite like applying a cooled version of your moisturizer on your face. Purchase small reusable bottles to store your products that aren't travel-sized. Be sure to label everything clearly so you don't use the wrong product in the wrong way. It's also great to take a look at the products you tend to purchase regularly. Look to see if they carry travel-sized versions of those products. If so, purchase them at the same time. Create a travel-sized pouch with all of your favorite products. When it's time to jet, you can simply grab the pouch and go.

Develop Your Five-Minute Face

Master your five-minute face. If you want to look fresh, dewy and alert, purchase makeup products that have a creamy consistency. Try to avoid matte lipsticks, concealers and foundations. If you're comfortable enough, try to avoid wearing a full face of makeup when you're traveling. It's much easier to keep it light and fresh. This will allow you to freely mist, add sunscreen or reapply moisturizer without a concern that you're ruining your makeup. If you wear a sheer shade of red lipstick, a bit of concealer under your eyes and a thick coat of lash-extending mascara, you'll be able to look presentable without a ton of upkeep.

One of the best ways to make life beautiful is through traveling on a regular basis. In addition to making your life beautiful through travel, it's nice to look back at pictures and enjoy how beautiful you looked. With these tips, you'll be well on your way to creating beautiful memories and looking beautiful as you make it all happen.
